Waning Moon
Neptune, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Venus, Mercury Retrograde

Phew! Are there enough retrogrades going on for you?

Having Samhain in the middle of all of this was quite exhausting. But that’s the way it goes sometimes. I’ll be Tending the Dead for a few more days, and you can read about that here.

I did my astrological spread for the year on Samhain. You can read about the spread itself here, where I have discussed it on the blog before. I use two decks for the spread, which looks like a clock face, with November the 12 o’clock all the way around the dial to the following October, and the center is the 13th lunation/overall energy for the year. I use two decks for this. The left hand card is the action for the month. The right hand card is the energy of the month. On the first of the month, I look at the potential action/energy for the month and see what I want to work with, and what I would like to adjust. Because every decision we make from the moment of the reading has potential to change the possibilities. Tarot is a mirror of your inner possibilities. The choices you make with the information and whatever else is going on in your life defines what actually happens.

Those two decks used in the spread are out of my regular rotation for the year, in case I want to use the full deck to explore something during the month.

This year, I used two Rachel Pollock decks: The Shining Woman and her later re-release of the deck called The Shining Tribe. Using the two decks in tandem was fascinating. And yes, there was at least one month where the same card came up as both action and energy. I have huge admiration for Pollock’s work, and working with both these decks has taught me a great deal. I believe the Shining Woman is out of print (it was replaced by the Shining Tribe). You can learn more about the deck and purchase it from Red Wheel/Weiser here.

Since we are starting a new cycle, we are also using a new spread. This is one of my spreads, that I call The Interconnected Spread. It has five cards, as you can see from the graphic.

Position 1: The Mind – This is the card in the center line, all the way to the left. This indicates where our minds are likely to focus.

Position 2: The Body – This is the center card of the center line, and indicates where we are physically in our body.

Position 3: The Spirit – This is the right most card of the center line, and indicates where the attention of our spirit leans.

Position 4: Influences – This is the top card of the spread. It indicates what kind of energies will influence our week.

Position 5: Support – This is the bottom card of the spread. It indicates what energies support us this week.

This spread can be done with a single deck, either tarot or oracle. There will be times this year when I do that, and other times when I use either two tarot decks, two oracle decks, or a tarot deck and an oracle deck. It’s entirely what you have at hand and what you want to use in any given week.

These interpretations are mine, based on my experience, intuition and responses to the artwork.

You may have a different experience. This is an overview of the week as it stands now; every decision we make from the moment of the reading can change the outcome. If there’s something in the reading that worries you, you have the information ahead of time so that you can plan, make better choices, or handle it differently than predicted for a better outcome. Tarot sets out possibilities, which you change through your choices and actions.

That is true of this reading, and of past and future readings.

For the month of November, we are using The Crow Tarot by MJ Cullinane, along with the Spirit Allies Deck by Jill Pyle and Cidney Bachert, illustrated by Jay Kay. You can learn more about each of the creators by clicking the link on their name. You can purchase the Crow Tarot here and the Spirit Allies deck here.

Mind: The Sun
This is a week for enjoying the sun. Be optimistic. Look for the luck that comes your way. Bask in whatever brightness we can enjoy as the days shorten. There’s potential to be in a good place mentally. Enjoy it and use it.

Body: King of Wands
The King of Wands is a strong leader with a clear vision and plenty of charisma. Move in the world this week with vision and confidence. Let the Sun’s optimism burnish your natural glow.

Spirit: Queen of Pentacles
The Queen of Pentacles is generous, soothing, and offers security and balance. Be kind to those around you. Take the time to listen and offer comfort wherever you can.

These three cards together offer a positive, integrated week, in spite of all the retrogrades. Just remember to think before you speak – more than once.

Influencing Energy: Obsidian
Obsidian blocks negative energy. That will strengthen the energies of the mind/body/spirit cards in the spread. Carry a piece of obsidian with you in your pocket or purse this week. Before you go through your door at night, mentally shed anything that tried to drag you down during the day.

Supporting Energy: Sagittarius
We are still in Scorpio, with a bunch of retrogrades. Sagittarius energy is about exploration and curiosity. Make time this week to do something that interests you, something that is out of your ordinary routine. Make room for enjoyment and curiosity.

In spite of the retrogrades and the concerns for the upcoming US elections, there’s potential for us to have a solid, positive week. Look for ways to embody the different positive aspects of these cards and make room for the good, as well as preparing for worst case scenarios, as we often need to do.

Did anything resonate with you, or did you get something different? I always like to hear about it.
