Waning Moon
Pluto Retrograde

Happy second week of June! I hope you enjoyed the first one.

We still have only one retrograde, Pluto. It’s nice when there’s only one, and we can really dig deep. We are in the final quarter of the moon this week. It’s a good time for banishing, clearing out, getting rid of things physically and psychically. The dark moon is on the 13th, good to give things a final heave, and the new moon is on June 14th. This is a somewhat quiet new moon. In my opinion, it’s more about building the next tier on something already begun than starting a big project. I would wait with big projects until after the Mercury retrograde comes and goes, so August. I plan to stay as quiet as possible between this new moon and Lammas (yes, that means a quiet July moon cycle, too), doing the work, and minding my own beeswax. I’m sure challenges will pop up on the way, but the steadier, quieter foundation I have, the better I can deal with them. I hope.

This week also sees Venus and Jupiter meeting in Cancer. This is about enjoyment, fulfillment, holding gratitude for what you have while also accepting new opportunities. It’s not about rushing or you’ll miss it (contrary to what many people are yapping about). Enjoy mulling over the opportunities.

I took a lot of pleasure in last week’s reading. There were also some challenges. During a short trip, I was having some difficulties, and decided to do a working. Either I embody my magic and use it when I need it, or I’m just cosplaying. I came up with a spontaneous new spell that was vitally necessary in the moment. It worked. It needs some tweaks (I fed too much of my own energy into it without grounding properly or replenishing, and paid that price), but with a little bit of refinement, it’s another tool in box, and that’s always a good thing. We live the path in the way we treat everything around us, but we can also tap into the energies we need when we need them. I also took advantage of some new opportunities offered, per the cards last week, and am following through on those this week, taking a chance on something that feels right.

This month, we use the Mystic Mondays Tarot by Grace Duong. It’s a lively, bright, modern deck. I love working with it, and I’m excited to share readings using it this month with you. You can learn more about Grace’s work, her classes, and buy the deck here.

This is one of my spreads, that I call The Elemental Spread. It is very similar to many of the Medicine Wheel spreads I’ve seen, but I made a few tweaks to the way I use it over the years.

We start in the center, with Spirit/Self. This is the overall energy of the week, and how we relate to it.

We move to the position above, with is North/Tangibles, connected to the element of Earth, advice on how to deal with the week on a tangible, materialistic level.

We move clockwise to the third position, East/Thought, connected to the element of Air, advice on how to intellectually deal with the week.

Then we move down to the bottom of the spread, the 4th position, South/Passion, connected to the element of Fire, advice on how to deal with the week from a place of passion and identity.

Then we move up to the left side of the spread, the 5th position, West/Emotion, connected to the element of Water, advice on how to deal with the week from a place of creativity and emotion.

We wind up where we started, at the spirit center, integrating all the information for the week.
These interpretations are mine, based on my experience, intuition and responses to the artwork.

You may have a different experience. This is an overview of the week as it stands now; every decision we make from the moment of the reading can change the outcome. If there’s something in the reading that worries you, you have the information ahead of time so that you can plan, make better choices, or handle it differently than predicted for a better outcome. Tarot sets out possibilities, which you change through your choices and actions.

Center – Spirit/Self: The Star
What a terrific card to be the driving energy of the week. It’s a beautiful card with beautiful energy. The support is there, there is lots of hope. Many decks show a pouring of water, indicating flow. This has a star central to the image – it’s about being, and shining as yourself. Any time you start to falter this week, whisper, “I am made of stardust” and let that fill you.

North – Earth/Tangibles: Seven of Cups
This is in the position of tangibles. This week, you will be offered lots of tangible, creatively fulfilling opportunities. The 7 of Cups often gets a bad rap in my opinion. It’s often dismissed as a card of indecision. I look on it as a cup of opportunities that need exploration. Fully enjoy the possibilities of each option, but do not make a decision yet. If you are being pushed into a decision, it’s usually to serve someone else’s agenda, not what’s best for you. Take your time, and savor the possibilities.

East – Air/Thought/Intellect: Nine of Cups
The 9 of Cups is often called the Wish card. In the position of thought, immediately tied to the 7 of Cups in the previous positions of tangibles, it reassures you that when you finally make a decision on the 7, it will be the right one. Your wishes will come true, but it’s also reinforcing the suggestion that you do not rush the decision, but weigh each option and think it through.

South – Fire/Passion/Identity: The Fool
This card was in last week’s reading, in the position of West/Emotion. This week, it’s in the position of identity and passion. Take a chance on a new sense of self, that makes you feel more like you. Risk the dance, risk the jump, if it feels right, without second-guessing yourself too much. That sounds like it’s in conflict with the advice in the 7 of Cups, not to make any quick decisions, but it’s not. You can still explore possibilities and then make the leap. Maybe you’ll dance on the top of the crystal a bit longer before making the leap, and that’s fine, too. Make sure it’s YOUR decision, and not someone else’s.

West – Water/Creativity/Emotion: The Hermit
With all these opportunities this week, the Hermit advises you to take plenty of time to withdraw and think things through. Again, this ties to the 7 of Cups, people wanting you to make a quick decision. Don’t be afraid to say, “this sounds great, but I need to think it over for a few days.” In other words, with the above card, “look before you leap” but once you take the leap, you can be confident to have the support you need.

This week, we have three Major Arcana cards, and two Minor Arcana, both cups. Take your time and enjoy the process. Enjoy the Venus-Jupiter conjunct and revel in the fact that you have opportunities, and all that track you set down for months and months is starting to show results.

Did anything in the reading resonate with you, or did you get something different? Always happy to hear from you in the comments!

  1. Another insightful reading. Thank you. It speaks clearly to my week of creative opportunities and learning, and to the new sense of self that finally, after some months of consideration, I have accepted in my magical work.

I’m thrilled about the magical work you did on the road!

    1. I was sitting there feeling helpless and then went, “Wait, I’m not helpless. I can tap into the magic!” So I did.
